While in Alaska for a Princess Cruise, Dusty and I stayed at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge. This is where we dined at Fannie Q's Saloon, named after a famed local homesteader.
Fannie Quigley (1870 – August 25, 1944) was one tough lady. At age 16, this Czech immigrant went from Wahoo, Nebraska, during the Gold Rush to Mount McKinley.
What she is known for;
When she could not count on the men to supply her with hunted wild game, she started hunting bears to sell her hot meals to the travelers.
But, the meat was only the secondary product.
She was after the bear lard to make pies.
There was nothing that Fannie couldn’t do, and do better, than any other person in the Klondike.

Life is easier today, most definitely.
Moving from a large metropolitan area in 2021 to a small town an hour away from the luxuries I was used to has been an adjustment. I would say it was worth it.
Now, I’m going to pack up my dog sled (Subaru) and head out to Whole Foods to get ingredients I cannot find in Red Wing, Minnesota. Fannie would be proud.
